About Lawcodes

The Lawcodes database, maintained by the Judicial Commission of New South Wales, provides unique codes based on legislation for all New South Wales offences and Commonwealth offences dealt with in New South Wales. The provision and use of these codes enables New South Wales justice sector agencies to exchange information and improve the integrity of information about offences.

NOTE: Lawcodes now contains two new law part flags (Show Cause flag and Serious Personal Violence Offence flag) requested by NSW Police to assist them in implementing s 16B(1) of the Bail Act 2013 (as inserted by the Bail Amendment Act 2014). NSW Police have accepted the responsibility of identifying the offences subject to s 16B(1) and communicated them to Lawcodes. The Judicial Commission of New South Wales gives no express or implied warranty of any kind with respect to the two new flags in this database and expressly disclaims all liability to the fullest extent permitted by the law. No person should act specifically on the basis of any information in this database without taking and considering professional legal advice on it.
